Ever Wondered How A Shuttlecock Is Made ?

What most players ignore, is how the speed of the shuttle varies depending
on three different things:

Temperature, the altitude mainly, and at some
extent, the humidity of the air !

A Typical Shuttlecock consists of Feather, Cork, String, cork leather, tape & glues

FEATHERS

  1. Goose Feather firstly has to be sanitized, Bleaching makes the feather whiter.
  2. The feathers are then usually sun dried overnight.
  3. Feather is sorted from the same side of the wing, Both left and right feathers will be used , But all left feathers or all right feathers will be planted on the same shuttlecock. Shuttlecocks made from the left wing are usually more stable in flight !Shuttles of a lower grade are re-exported.
  4. A feather of approx and is now ready for "punching" to the cork.
  5. Cut feathers will me measured for their curve, only similar angles of curve will go to the same shuttlecock.

CORKING

  1. Cork weighting, Corks have to be carefully weighed atfer wrapping to ensure that the weight of cork base to feather is correct
  2. Punching 16 Feathers from the same wing with the sharp end on stem will be punched to the cork base oy a semi-automatic machine
  3. Adjusting Feathers punched have to be manually adjusted into the correct position
  4. Molding Shuttlecocks have to be placed in a mould to affirm their shape
  5. Stitching Threads tighten the feather in between to strengthen the shuttlecock
  6. Gluing Gluing makes the feather and cork bond together as one piece
  7. Measuring Shuttlecocks have to be measured for correct length
  8. Weighing Shuttlecocks are now weighed on an electronic scale to 0.01oz
  9.
  10. Testing The shuttles must be speed rated and sorted accordingly
